LAF Flexitanks Support the ‘Danjiangkou to North, Water Transfer Project’

The train of the ‘Danjiangkou to North, Water Transfer Project’ departed on December 5th, with LAF supporting China PingMei ShenMa Group by providing containerized Flexitank packaging, technical formulation, and related supporting services. LAF Flexitanks will escort the water from Danjiangkou to cities along the Northwest Railway.

This globally pioneering project achieves resource complementarity in China. Given the water scarcity in Northwest China and the water surplus in Southern China, water transfer project resolves local water shortage. Additionally, it improves transport utilization. In the past, the Haolebaoji-Ji'an Railway transported coal from north to south, but there was no cargo on the return route. Currently, by transporting water, a transportation balance has been achieved.

On December 5th, the launching ceremony of the ‘Danjiangkou to North Water Transfer’ container train was held in Pingdingshan. After the announcement of the departure by Junfu Jiang, Deputy General Manager of China PingMei ShenMa Group, the train gradually left the Shenlou Traffic Yard in Pingdingshan City.

The water transfer project leverages the Danjiangkou Reservoir water resources and utilizes the Haolebaoji-Ji'an Railway's billion-ton-level return transport capacity to transport water to water-scarce cities along the route in Shaanxi, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, and other regions. The inaugural ‘Danjiangkou to North, Water Transfer’ container train will head to relevant cities in Inner Mongolia, providing high-quality natural water.

This project aims to construct a water intake, transportation, water production, and sales system with an annual capacity of 10 million tons. The construction sites locate in Xichuan, Yuncheng, Linfen, Yan'an, Yulin, Ordos, Hohhot, and other places. The primary product is drinking water, and the construction period is approximately two years.

By report, the canal headwork of the "South-to-North Water Diversion" central line project locates in Xichuan, Henan. In addition, PingMei ShenMa Group invests in a construction of an advanced coal chemical industrial park in Ordos. The Northern Coal-South Transportation main route, the Haolebaoji-Ji'an Railway, passes through the two places, forming advantageous conditions for the project. Through project implementation, the Haolebaoji-Ji'an Railway can be upgraded from a "Northern Coal-South Transportation" main route to a bidirectional main route of "Northern Coal-South Transportation" + ‘Danjiangkou to North Water Transfer’, tapping into the transportation potential of the Haolebaoji-Ji'an Railway.

On June 9, 2023, Xichuan signed a cooperation agreement with PingMei ShenMa Group for the ‘Danjiangkou to North, Water Transfer Project’. Four months later, Henan Danjiangkou to North Water Transfer Water Resources Development Co., Ltd. was officially registered.

At the ceremony, Hongbin Li, the executive director of Danjiangkou to North Water Transfer, stated that the ‘Danjiangkou to North, Water Transfer Project’ is a brand-new initiative without referenced experience. Over the past year, overcoming various difficulties, China PingMei ShenMa Group has developed open top box Flexitanks made of nylon material and designed a fully automatic container loading and unloading water system. The project is aligned with the governments and consumer markets of major cities in the Northwest, allowing 15 million people along the railway to drink natural water from Danjiangkou. It also broadens the market of the corporation’s nylon new material products, opening up a new track for the high-quality transformation and development of water resource exploitation.
